America's Largest and Second Oldest Chapter
8th Grade Good Citizenship Contest
For decades, the Western Reserve Society SAR has offered our Good Citizenship Awards to qualified 8th grade students in public and private schools through a process administered in their own schools.
In the past, over 600 certificates per year were awarded to students from our area schools. We look forward to your school’s participation in our programs. There is no cost to your school. We only request that your principal, staff members, and students take time to select qualified candidates for the GOOD CITIZENSHIP AWARDS.
The Western Reserve Society of the Sons of the American Revolution suggests that you limit the number of awardees from one to three eighth graders so that the award has maximum meaning. We believe this program can provide incentive and stimulate admiration for good citizenship on the part of our youth.
THE QUALITIES which are the basis of this award are:
DEPENDABILITY -- as evidenced by punctuality, honesty, loyalty, trust worthiness, and self-control.
COOPERATION -- as evidenced by respect for authority, respect for property, respect for the rights of others, and courtesy.
LEADERSHIP-- as evidenced by what the person has done to make the school a better school.
PATRIOTISM -- as evidenced by a person's loyalty to, and knowledge of the purpose expressed in the Preamble of the Constitution of the United States.
CLEAN SPEECH AND HABITS -- No person shall receive this award who is not clean in speech and habits.
